America Ferrera Skinny-fied

If America Ferrera is so totally gorgeous, why does she too need to photoshopped and stripped down to size?

What’s worse, the tagline inside the magazine reads “Surprise! She’s a bombshell, and you can be one too!”

The most psycho part of this whole thing is this girl is the star of “Ugly Betty.” Is this not completely twisted?

Fashion magazines are the world’s oldest con. The $400 billion dollar fashion industry is laughing all the way to the bank.

How many of you have this rag lying around in your house?

OMG she looks like she has lollipop head!
I think she was georgeous before hand and seeing her photoshopped is just wrong!!

I will admit I have this mag though oops so sorry! x

  2. Lily says:

    Hi MamaV,

I have bought this magazinein the past. I am really disgusted- why did they do that? I’m so offended by it and whats worse is if I hadn’t seen your blog post and saw that magazine on the shelf I’d be like ‘she’s lost weight (Ferrera) so I have to’. It sends the message LOUD AND CLEAR that her natural body size is not acceptable and it makes me half angry half want to cry,

    Lily xxx

  3. Nats says:

Hey Lily, I responded to your post on new forum, im here if you need me

  4. . says:

yeah a while ago I was watching something that was talking about celebrities with eating disorders and they brought up america ferrera and how she’s bigger but still beautiful and all I was thinking is “yeah one of the few bigger actresses just happens to be the star of UGLY betty”

  5. Rachel says:

What the fuck and why the fuck did they DO that to her?!?!!! Yeah, this magazine is the biggest bullshit lie that I’ve ever had the displeasure of seeing in the shopping line. WTF?!?!?!!

I remember a long time ago, Julia Stiles was on the cover and they did the same damn thing to her! I was infuriated, and I was also a bit sad because I thought that she might have ED… But now I realize that it’s all BS.

Man, this one rubs me the wrong way! America Ferrera is absoolutely drop-dead gorgeous!

  6. Jennifer says:

I get this magazine and I’m strongly thinking about canceling my subscription. What were they thinking?!?

  7. sally says:

Yes, it IS disgusting! Obviously their definition of “hot” is to be severely photoshopped

Why don’t you all email/write a letter to the editor or artistic director?? You all have a voice right? Let it be heard, tell them what you think!

  8. wanderer says:

Glamour puts out statements of empowerment and “be yourself” and then shaves about three sizes off the women on the covers. Talk about your mixed up messages!

  9. Sarah says:

haha oh my god whats wrong with me i disagree with everyone i must be strongly fucked up and should just stop commenting

  10. Elle says:

I’m not surprised at all. I’ve been very aware of the very large amounts of photoshop done on almost all photos in fashion and beauty magazines. Just go to youtube and look up “photoshop makeover” You’ll see some incredible examples of how models and actresses are changed before publication.

It’s disgusting to be selling the idea of beauty that is literally science fiction, but if the standard was ever attainable then women might stop buying beauty magazines, make-up, plastic surgery, name-brand clothes, etc…

I am proud to say i have never regularly bought beauty/fashion mags. I sometimes will buy one because of an article about an actress/celeb that I respect alot. The last magazine of this sort I bought was Aug 07 issue of JANE because of the semi-nude photo of Milla Jovovich pregnant. It was very honesty done and showed the beauty of womanhood.

  11. Michelle says:

    She doesn’t look healthy.

    She looks disproportionate.

    Her arms look funny.

Even without that photo next to her I would have noticed that.

    I hate photoshop..
we are going to learn how to use it in our English class. : \

  12. Rachel says:

Photoshop is an incredibly powerful and awesome tool. It, however, has been used and sorely abused by the fashion industry for ages now, which is unfortunate.

We don’t need to completely change who a person is! Just simply smoothe out a few bumps, bruises and blemishes.

Why can’t the art department of these magazines do something useful in the art world where they can truly flex their photoshop muscles as opposed to this morally and ethically bankrupt cause?

  13. Nats says:

Rachel why are you not on the forum hun?

  14. KerryElizabeth says:

    im guilty of owning”this rag”….

i actually passed by it at work last night and made a point to buy it,

i saw it and thought, “damn she looks so gorgeous, i’m jealous”
so i had to have it.

guess im one of the suckers that buys into those things..

  15. Rachel says:

Mama’sFORUM, Nats? I dunno! I guess I’d never trhought of it!

  16. Saye Nao says:

Fortunately I do not have any of these magazines around my apartment. My friends that I’m living with love reading these women’s magazines. I think they find me weird when I don’t like women’s fashionable clothes, the magazines and what not. Even if I know that all these magazine covers are photoshopped, they don’t. As much as I tell them, they don’t understand so they continue admiring these idealistic views of flawless photoshopped skin, perfect bodies (I saw Eva Longoria’s photoshopped body made more curvaceous than she really is) and so on.

  17. Char says:

I hate all magazines that every month they publish “How to lose those 5 pounds in a week” or the latest work outs for your butt. If the stuff they published were true we would all be in the best shape and thin. Just like if diet pills worked we would all be thin. I hate to say it took me from age 5 until 21 to realize all of this. I am now 25 and refuse to buy any magazine that has the latest diet published in it. Those magazines are a rip off. Some fitness magazines, I forgot which one I used to buy, actually have some good work outs such as learning new free weight forms and such, but then again they do advertise the new diet of the month.

  18. Sass1948 says:

i saw somethin bout her on the cover of a mag and it briefly ran through my thoughts on how predictable its is that she’d slim down…but she hasnt? thats all false? shame on whoever airbrushed her shame.

  19. Karrie says:

Oh I think this is SO UNACCEPTABLE! How dare they alter her BEAUTIFUL body to fit THEIR narrow perceptions! America Ferrera is downright GORGEOUS, not just outside but inside too, for having confidence against the stupidity that surrounds us everyday in the form of “Change because you re not acceptable”.

POWER to Fererra, NO to stupid fashion magazines!

  20. Leah says:

I saw that magazine when I was in line at the grocery store and I turned to my friend and said, “why do the have to photoshop her?”

My friend replied by saying, “The whole reason that people like her is because she’s unique. She makes me feel better.”

Then I just got angry and mumbled something like, “This is such total bull shit.”

    I’m sick of this.

  21. tinatangos says:

Why can’t a beautiful Latina girl just be herself? What’s up with the photoshop???? I’m anti-photoshop. She is sooo beautiful as she is, naturally.

  22. Alyss says:

When I saw that on the self I (loudly) commented on how horridly photoshopped her body was, and how she looked like a bobblehead doll made of rubber.
Doesn’t get any worse than that… she looked fine her original size… why make her look like a freaky alien?
If you’re going to photoshop our natural bodies… at least do a good job…

  23. beth says:

Hmmm….. I think she looks pretty on the cover. It is unfortunate that I perceive her as frumpy and fat (bigger than chubby) on tv. If only we could airbrush our real bodies! This is my e.d., artistic, genuine opinion, ladies. Not PC, sorry.

  24. Amber/vanity900 says:

are you SURE it was photo shop? wow thats tisted…

  25. Camilla says:

I’m totally with you Karrie, i can’t believe they did that. I am never buying another magazine ever again!!!

  26. Inking Stamp says:

Julia Stiles look great both with the short hair and long hair, but i prefer her to have a long hair :-,
