Fainting Dieters Cause NY Subway Delays

No lie.

An average of 395 dieters that faint on the NYC subway every MONTH, according to the Associated Press.

Are American’s completely out of their minds?

You mean to tell me that starvation is so prevalent in this country that people are dropping over on their way to work because they haven’t eaten?

What next.

    Wow, that’s a scary statistic.

  2. Gabi says:

mamav,,,,dont know if youll get a chance to see this. it will probably get lost with loads of other replies.but here goes. from tomorrow i am going to stop. i havent been given a choice in the matter, but its what i have to do. it is going to be the hardest thing in the world. i dont think ill cope, and i have the longest day at work ever (10 hour shift). wish me luck! xxxxxx

p.s. that is a scary statistic!

  3. Melissa says:

    What. The. Hell.?!

    That’s like 10 people a DAY.

What the hell is wrong with America? This is only a NY statistic, so who knows how many other people are fainting as well?! Grrr..

Gabi- What are you stopping? The challenge or the “diet”? >.> I’m confused. ♥

Good to see a new post, Mama.

  4. vachon says:

The statistic doesn’t surprise me. I find myself feeling faint or getting dizzy at work for the same reason.

  5. gabi says:

melissa- i was never on the challange. i have to stop the purging. not being given a choice. today i have to have two meals and keep it down….i dont think i can do it!!

  6. kay says:

~wow~ but here goes the funny part… i am not shocked at all.

I can absolutely see that happening, when i saw this i figured- if i am engaging in these behaviors, then what is to stop someone else. Not that everyone has an eating disorder, but whatever they are doing to cause fainting- trust me it isn’t “normal.”

I am glad to see a new post from you mama,

    `besoins~ (kisses en francais)

    hi mamav
    emm i sent u a message a while ago
    It’s this:
    Hi mamaV =]
Em i am sorry if I am disturbing you…
You don’t know me but i biew your site a lot.
I really admire your strength and POSITIVE will-power because you were able to recover.
I was just wondering if you would like to talk with me about something.
I am trying to stop the eating stuff but i can’t seem to be able to.
As you wrote that you had an ed, and you are now recovered, I was wondering if you
(only if you wanted to of course) wanted to share your experience with me.
I would appreciate it very much.
Thank you for taking the time to read this =]
Hagar (By the way I am fourteen and a half years old)
P.S. If you want to answer me back my youtube username is xxcoolletxx2

    em anywyas
i don’t know what to do
i had managed to not purge for nearly two weeks.
then i purged again and again.
    please i need help.

  8. Nats says:

I am not at all surprised by this. I mean I passed out in the hallway this morning so whats stopping me from passing out on the bus or tube?

  9. Sarah says:

lol! I`m sorry I had to laugh. it`s sad though.

  10. Melissa says:

Gabi- Sorry, it’s hard to keep up, you know? Well, I’m glad for you that someone is trying to help you out. They seem to only understand the physical part of the disorder, though. (BTW: My email is back up, did you get my last message?)

Hagar- MamaV is pretty busy and has billions of comments to go through. Be patient and I’m sure she will respond. However, MamaV is not “qualified” to be the one to help you, she can only show you the way. Have you tried calling any of the hotline numbers she has listed on her site? MamaV isn’t really the one who helps most people here. We help each other. Jane, Joey, Nats, Gabi, Emily, etc… We are all each other’s support system. MamaV just blogs. It’s kinda funny actually. =)

Stay strong though, I know you’ve got the power to fight this! ♥

  11. I hope my subway doesn’t get delayed because of fainters. :) Better yet, I hope I’m not one of the fainters. Ha.

  12. Alexa says:

i dont know why but im happy today…nobody can take away my smile. :)

  13. Melissa says:

Palmtreechick- Long time no see! How have you been? I hope you aren’t a fainter too. ♥

Alexa- That is so great! I’m glad to hear that. You should bite anybody who tries to take it away! =P

  14. Jane says:

Shocking numbers when you think of it as 10 a day in NY alone. Kinda makes me glad we don’t have a subway here ;o)

    Anyway, love yaz x

  15. Gabi says:

melissa-i got the email you sent a last week, and i replied but if yur emails been down then you probs havent seen it…so i kept my lunch down. it was all panic attacks and anxiety and moodiness for me…kinda pathetic actually considering all i had was two spoonfuls of sweetcorn, 3 olives and 1 slice of tomato!

melissa how are you doing? xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  16. Jessica says:

Hey Mama. Just wanted to say Hi. I hope everyone is doing alright on the challenge. I know someone who is doing the challenge, but hasn’t responded on here. She smashed her Scale because she got so frustrated with it and was sick of falling back into it because of the numbers. Sounds like a good idea to me. I haven’t done it, but i just can’t do it. Hope you’re doing well.

  17. Hey Melissa,

I’ve actually never fainted in my life so I’m sure I’ll be okay!

  18. Joey says:

    Woah, that’s crazy.
Though, unsurprising, if you look at a lot of “diets” the calories are often wwaayyy too low.

  19. Nats says:

Melissa is right, we all stick together on here, we are here for eachother on good days and bad, I have ranted on here so many times ad I am not judged for it, if anyone wants to chat with me then you are all more than welcome I will help any way I can xxx
